As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this Edo/ Meiji period bronze and mixed metal Tsuba depicting what appears to be a seated Chinese scholar reading a calligraphy scroll resting upon a lacquer table, the scholar running his long mustache through his fingers with an expression of contemplation upon his face, the reverse of the tsuba simply depicts a pine tree upon a rocky outcrop, the scene worked in a variety of mixed metals including gold and silver, artist signed to the rear by Yoshinori zo , one of nine tsuba artist to use this name, it is not possible for us to know which one made it , it is however another fine example from a single owner collection.
