As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large and fine quality Meiji period 1868-1912 Cloisonné enamel Koro , the Koro firmly attributed to the highly regarded artist Honda Yosaburo , a well known enamellist who rather frustratingly rarely signed his work , perhaps he was manufacturing for a commission or presentation as was often the case , regardless of lack of signature the piece certainly does not lack stature and quality , the wirework is exceptional and finished in painstaking detail throughout , the boldly decorated body stands upon three gilt legs and is predominantly decorated in stylised flora and gilt wire Butterflies upon a blood red enamel and three vignettes each decorated with creatures including a Dragon , Lion Dog and Ho Ho Bird ,the lappets to the neck and lid are exquisitely detailed, the interior has been counter enamelled in a green lava type of technique and bears an old collectors label , the lid surmounted by a Namikawa style gilded Chrysanthemum finial , a fine quality example for your Cloisonné enamel or Japanese works of art collection .
