As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this unusual and high quality Meiji period 1868-1912 , Okimono of a prowling Tiger by the highly regarded Maruki company, the exquisite bronze casting has been decorated with contrasting striations in relief throughout the cats body, his whiskers and claws are also in relief and of a different coloured alloy, the eyes are particularly striking having been decorated in Gold and Shakudo, the artist Atsuyoshi has certainly captured the Tiger in a very stylised pose with much movement throughout, he stands on his original carved rootwood base,  the bronze is signed to the underside in an oval cartouche, this reads the artist name Atsuyoshi and is accompanied by a square seal for the Maruki company .

Condition report:

The Tiger is incredibly chunky and heavy at approx 18kg,  and is in fantastic condition throughout , the wooden base is separate and also heavy quality and is in great condition for its age.
